SUBJECT(s)
      Landscapes

My work is involved with the landscape of the west, which I find visually and spiritually stimulating. I am interested in landscapes–particularly of rugged wilderness areas–that offer a unique sense of place and a broad field of vision , and that can be interpreted in a variety of ways. More recently I have also begun to use aerial views to heighten the interactions between man-made forms and natural ones. In these works I choose to work with the power, beauty and contradictions of the landscape as I see it. Sometimes this has environmental as well as aesthetic implications. In addition, I wish to use the forming power of the visual art language to define these visually compelling relationships. Yet I want my definitions to include enough suggestion that viewers can read these landscapes through their own experiences.

I am drawn to printmaking because its techniques are a natural way of extending drawing and painting methods and because I like having a variety of ways of constructing the image. Given my subject matter, the textures and patterns possible with printmaking media act as an aid to invention.
